Dr Nylanda Ma

Consultant Psychologist and Clinical Registrar

M.Psych (Clinical), PhD

Dr Nylanda Ma is currently on leave

I am a general psychologist and clinical registrar.

I have a particular interest and passion in working with children, youth, and families and with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I strongly believe in taking a holistic approach with my clients, considering all aspects of life including culture, work or school life, relationships, physical health, spirituality, and social aspects of life. I am passionate about working with my clients strengths, beliefs, and experiences to build a more resilient, harmonious, and positive life.

I specialise in working with children and families using a 'whole family approach' where each member of the family's views, experiences, and goals are valued and respected. I work with children, youth, and families experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including behavioural issues, difficulties in school, separation/divorce, grief, trauma, and emotional issues. Together, we work towards building a stronger and more harmonious life for everyone using strategies that work best for each individual family and family member.

I couple clinical training and a strong research background to provide the best service possible for my clients. I have a particular interest in working with individuals on communication, parenting strategies, attachment and relationship styles, and in collaboratively developing evidence-based strategies to help my clients achieve their goals. I have received training in a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Attachment-based Therapeutic Interventions, and School-based Therapeutic Interventions. I have conducted extensive research on the concept of taking the entire family's view, focusing particularly on siblings and sibling relationships.

I am available to see clients at the Sunshine and Coolaroo offices, and I conduct outreach services and home visits where there are required following an initial consultation in my office.

I bulk bill all clients with a Mental Health Plan referral (ie. Medicare covers the session fee).
