I have specialist expertise in the management of gastrointestinal disorders (IBS, and IBD) and work with the team at The Alfred Gut Clinic in a holistic approach to the management of conditions which impact gut function and eating. I also work with people experiencing other medical conditions often related to anxiety and people suffering chronic illness and pain.
My other areas of interest include management of trauma, eating disorders, self esteem, sexual and body perception concerns. I also provide guidance and support for musical and theatre performance difficulties. I have consulted to schools, assisting students, teachers and families at a personal and curriculum level, and I have assessed hundreds of students for learning and intellectual di fficulties, as well as giftedness.
I have an interest in the area of memory and learning, particularly gifted students with dyslexia, and I have written and published a resource book on spelling and provide seminars on topics such as dyslexia.
I take a very practical and compassionate approach to my work. I draw upon emotion focused and psychodynamic therapies, along with cognitive behavioural thought strategies to help my clients develop immediate management plans, whilst also helping them gain deeper insights into the nature and origin of their current circumstances and beliefs. I am a supportive counsellor who can help you explore spiritual or emotional factors which give your life meaning.
I use a variety of techniques including talking therapies and psycheducation (learning how the brain works and what is happening inside our body), as well as biofeedback, visualisation and medical hypnosis to help assist in understanding what is causing discomfort, impeding our independence or ability to be who we really want to be.
I believe everyone is different in how they have learned to manage their experiences, and the forms of assistance, I think, therefore need to be tailored and fl exible to suit the individual.
